چکیده

Abstract Dielectric metasurfaces hold an exceptional potential for the next generation of tunable optical systems that find applications in sensing, ranging, and imaging. Here, we introduce demonstrate magnetic field tuning dielectric infiltrated with liquid crystals. To illustrate this concept, show how reorientation crystal induced by changes spectrum resonant metasurface. This new magnetic-field approach offers significant advantages over other methods since it does not require pre-alignment or fabrication structured electrodes, which are both challenging when dealing metasurfaces. Furthermore, there no strict limitations on thickness cells. Importantly, our allows gradual resonances changing orientation and, thereby, shows good promise highly metadevices.

Temperature Tunability of Dielectric/ Liquid Crystal / Dielectric Photonic Crystal Structures

Recently, photonic crystals doped with liquid crystal (LC) material havegained much research interest. In this article new ternary one-dimensional photoniccrystal introduced and studied. The liquid crystal layer of 5CB and 5PCH is sandwichedby two dielectric layers. For the first time, we use four structures SiO2/UCF35/CaF2,SiO2/5CB/CaF2, NFK51/UCF35/NPSK53 and NFK51/5CB/NPSK53. The effect ofte...

Electro-optical switching by liquid-crystal controlled metasurfaces.

We study the optical response of a metamaterial surface created by a lattice of split-ring resonators covered with a nematic liquid crystal and demonstrate millisecond timescale switching between electric and magnetic resonances of the metasurface. This is achieved due to a high sensitivity of liquid-crystal molecular reorientation to the symmetry of the metasurface as well as to the presence o...

Dielectric relaxation in a ferroelectric liquid crystal

2014 We present an analytic calculation of the normal modes of distortion induced by a small transverse A.C. electric field on a ferroelectric liquid crystal close to its transition temperature Tc between the smectic A and C* phases. These normal modes are superpositions of electric polarization and angular molecular distortion. Compared to a previous work of Blinc and Zeks, we assume that the ...

Tuning Fluidic Resistance via Liquid Crystal Microfluidics

Flow of molecularly ordered fluids, like liquid crystals, is inherently coupled with the average local orientation of the molecules, or the director. The anisotropic coupling-typically absent in isotropic fluids-bestows unique functionalities to the flowing matrix. In this work, we harness this anisotropy to pattern different pathways to tunable fluidic resistance within microfluidic devices. W...
